Read-write system

Using a computer, with todays technology, gives the possibility for a visually impaired person to read any kind of documents printed on paper. To reach this goal it is necessary to join some items, forming a system out of it as it is explained bellow.

How do the system work:

To begin this process a blind person should put the paper he/she wants to be read over a scanner and activate the scanner. The scanner will then start to scan the paper. In 5 or 10 seconds the scanner will start "seeing" what is over the paper and will send the information to the computer. The computer will translate it into characters to the screen and will start reading it for the user with a human voice.

The computer user can regulate the speed of speech, re-read any part of the text, choose between a woman or mans' voice and configure many other itens of the system to work with its full capacity.The computer user is able to print this document using a Braille Printer in the Braille Alphabet or also print it through a normal printer in a common paper. Braille Teknik will set the computer in such a way that it can fully attend all needs of its user.

A person that can not see anything or is not able to read any document, can use this system to read anything from the screen of a computer or to print it in Braille characters. The computer user will use a special computer software system of speech to read any kind of document he wants to.

The goal of having a talking computer is to be able to work with speech all-around, that means use it in speech when you turn it on, use it as a tool to read any kind of information that is on the screen and turn it of. A visually impaired person should be able to use a talking computer in the same way a non-blind person can use a normal one, such as beeing able to navigate in the Internet. Today a blind person is able to work in any environment such as Windows95 or Windows98, use programs like Oficce 97, MS Word or Excel, with Turkish speech or some other languages. The speech system is so bright that a visually impaired person can even write a computer software program. A blind person that uses with full capacity this system can turn himself into a computer programer or computer engineer.

This speech software is compatible to any other program from the market. Using this system in full harmony, visualy impaired persons are able to scan any kind of material printed on paper, turn into a text file, print it using standard Braille alphabet or Turkish Braille alphabet, with or without abbreviation.

Take in count that the Synthesizer Apollo II and Hal95 are the only programs which provide Turkish speech, and a lot of different languages speech also. Hal95 works in the Windows environment and is compatible to all its programs. The Softwares mentioned above for the visually impaired persons, were installed by Braille Teknik in two rehabilitation centers, some libraries and institutions in Turkey. It is also important to note that this system is brought to Turkey for the first time, working with a software that has a Turkish speech.

Until Today, Turkish softwares were developed and improved in Turkey. It is important to notice that this softwares are not made for the visually impaired persons. The person or institution who is responsable for the installation of these softwares should check if the above maintioned softwares are compatible, and most important they should obtain technical information from an expert.

Braille Teknik offers the visually impaired persons, high quality Braille Printers, specially manifactured for Braille users with a special price. These printers can print in Braille alphabet using a translator program that converts computer ASCII characters into braille. With todays technology any person that can not even read braille, can print any kind of documents for visually impaired persons. This situation gives usefull means for computer users and a necessary tool for visualy impaired persons.

JULIET is the most well-known braille printer. It is strong, easy regulated by users and with the advantage of printing on both sizes of the paper. You can use papers with different thickness in JULIET without having any problem with the cartrige. This printer can print 56 characters on a line and 55 character pre second. Normally, we offer a JULIET model that can print continuous Braille computer paper and that can also print on a single paper.

Braille Express 150 can print 150 characters per second using a continuous Braille computer paper. If this printer works 5 hours a day, it will be able to print 500.000 pages binding a book with high braille printed quality.
